Lots of snow on the ground in our area this winter and we are really just getting into the time of year where we can get some big snowfalls. That being said last year the ice was off the lake on April 7th so spring is not too far away. Bruce and I are looking forward to a great spring season in Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls and Morson. Buyers and Sellers are starting to think about spring as well so now is the time to start making your plans for the upcoming season. Hard to believe that the summer of 2012 has come and gone. It has been another great summer on Lake of the Woods with the sunny days seeming to stretch on forever. It seems to have been a busy summer for many of the local businesses in Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls and Morson and we hope to build on this momentum going into the fall of 2012 and then into 2013. Lake of the Woods Bald Eagles

One of the most exhilarating wildlife encounters you can have on Lake of the Woods is with a Bald Eagle. Often seen from a distance, once you have had the chance to see one up close, you will realize how big and magnificent these birds are. I recently had the pleasure of meeting a great photographer who has been able to capture this magnificence with some stunning photographs. Aspen Trails

A great new trail system ready for 2012. The Aspen Trail now has a trail head parking lot along Dubois Road, just north of Sioux Narrows. From here head off to the east on the 4.2 km (2.6 mile) loop that was completed last fall. The trail goes through many different forest types and landscapes and has boardwalks in all the low wet areas. This trail is also a cross country ski trail in the winter. Spring has arrived early and fast! Most of the snow has melted over the last week and the ice has started opening up under the bridge. Who knows how long the warm weather will last, many times we get some nice weather followed by a big snow storm. As for when the ice will go out, if this weather keeps up we could have one of the earliest ice-outs in recent memory. I will keep you posted. A big thank you to Nestor Falls Fly-in and our pilot Kyle for a great flight yesterday. It couldn’t have been a better day, and we got some amazing video and photos. As I update the site you will start to see more aerial photos of our listings. I got some great HD video with my new wide-angle lens for my i-phone and you can take a look at some of these on the listing page for the 17.5 acre island. Canada Day Celebrations

July 1st celebrations are coming up soon. Events in Sioux Narrows kick off in the morning with kids Bike Parade in the Trading Post parking lot followed by kids races next door in the school field. Bruce has been organizing and donating prizes for the kids races for many years and is hoping that there will be a great turn-out again this year as July 1st falls on a long weekend. There will be sack races, three legged races, running races, egg-toss and more. In Nestor Falls, come out to Bass Lake park where celebrations will be going on all day with Fireworks at dusk. In Sioux Narrows the fireworks take place at the bridge at dusk. Hope to see you out on Canada Day! – Jake
